Search and Rescue where called out on November 2nd. The page was received at 8:56 to search for a missing male on the west side of the Medicine Lodge.
After interviewing one of the lost individual’s partners, the unit had waypoints for his last known location, his pack, and his truck. Hasty teams were deployed at 11:15 PM to the Schwartz creek area. The young man had been helping a group of hunters pack out an elk. After getting the elk off the mountain, he decided to go back up and hunt for some elk he had seen earlier. His phone was about dead when he headed back out but was able to text a party member and let them know his plans. Not only was his phone dead but his head lamp was broken as well.
At 1:53 AM this missing person was located by search members Julia Clark, Dalton Tamcke, and Cody Schnee. When the young man got caught out after dark, he did exactly what lost individuals should do, to stay put and build a large fire. He was reported to be in good shape and was assisted off the mountain back to his vehicle. At this point all search members were notified and returned to Dillon. Individual SAR members participating in the field were: Steve Mock, Josh Yeadon, Kolby Malesich, David Broadhead, Shane Puyear, Charles Weidow, Smitty Smith, Julia Clark, Dalton Tamcke, and Cody Schnee. The incident command team working out of the Search and Rescue Building were: Mel Rice, Lawerence Morrisroe, Alan Holt, Brian Vinson, Sheriff 18-5.
It is early in the season and weather will come in at some point in time. Please take care out there, make sure you are prepared for any number of situations. That goes for your vehicles as well as the packs you carry in the field. Don’t become a statistic. Be Safe. “In the Business of Saving Lives”, your Beaverhead Search and Rescue.
