WATCH: This Timelapse Footage of the Milky Way over the Grand Canyon Will Leave You Speechless

Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park is an amazing location to visit for stargazing. Andrew Imhoff is an Arizona photographer who specializes in dark sky and astrophotography. He visited the Grand Canyon recently in the hopes of capturing the Milky Way—and he certainly did.

Andrew left his camera, a Nikon Z6, balancing on a cliff edge all night long. The camera was extremely effective in low light, capturing a group of 700 photos. He chose specific camera settings to achieve an incredible timelapse, including the lighting setting ISO 6400, with 30-second shutter speed, and a Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 lens.

In the stunning footage, you can see the stars in the sky reflecting brightly on the Colorado River. Planes dart across the sky like shooting stars, and the Milky Way moves across the sky with the magnificent Grand Canyon in the foreground.

In his original Instagram reel, Andrew describes the footage as “a side of the Grand Canyon you probably haven’t seen.” He thought it was worth putting his favorite camera in a perilous position, saying, “Sometimes you just gotta risk the equipment ”.

The reel has been viewed 1.3 million times and counting. One user commented, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything this beautiful.”
